Preparing a Life Plan
9:00 am - 10:30 am
Don Scott Marable, CFP® - Don has been a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) with Edward Jones for over 10 years and has extensive knowledge in special needs planning. His presentation will focus on the role of a qualified financial advisor with regards to life planning including estate planning, special needs trust, insurance, and investment management as well as tips for choosing a financial advisor that is right for your family. Strategies for maximizing benefits such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will also be discussed.

Estate Planning and Stewardship for Special Families
10:45 am - 12:15 pm
John A. Chalk Jr., JD, CPA, CFP®, ChSNC™
- John is a partner of Chalk Cullum & Associates, a local financial planning and money management firm. His passion to help families who have a child with a disability comes from his own personal experience with his family. John’s brother-in-law, Johnny Stallings, had Down syndrome. During this session, you will gain an insightful perspective into the fundamentals of Estate Planning and what that looks like when you have a family member with a disability. Attendees will receive a detailed education regarding Wills, Trusts (with emphasis on Special Needs Trust), Beneficiary designations, Letter of Intent, and more. The goal of this session is to provide attendees with the clarity needed to move forward with planning for their family's future.

Parent Panel

12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
A panel of parents will discuss their unique experiences related to financial planning for their family. They will discuss lessons learned along the way and offer tips and suggestions from a parent's point of view. Audience participation and questions are welcomed and encouraged.


1:45 pm - 3:15 pm
This session will cover when and why guardianships become necessary and the procedures that must be followed in order to procure a guardianship.
